PISA 2009 : Explaining the gender gap in reading through reading engagement and approaches to learning

2013

Premium

Summary

"Although Canada has always ranked in the top quarter of the Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA) evaluations in reading, and Canadian students are still listed among the best readers in world, a significant gender gap has been identified. Girls outperform boys with a gap roughly equivalent to half a reading-proficiency level, or one full year of formal schooling. This paper uses the PISA 2009 data set to investigate and isolate the factors contributing to the gender gap in Canada"--Summary.
