[...] Parents of the baby boomers Having demarcated the baby boom, Statistics Canada used birth records to identify the years of birth of the women that had most of their children during the period of the boom. [...] The number of households grows to 16.3 million (an increase of 3.6 million) in the lowest growth scenario, the result of combining the “Low-growth” population growth scenario with the Low headship rate scenario. [...] In the medium household growth scenario, -800 for example, the number of household dissolutions among household maintainers reaching the 75 and older age group -1,000 during the 2031 to 2036 period rises to nearly twice the level of the 2001 to 2006 period (see figure 10). [...] The projections indicate that the growth rate non-family households, the vast majority of which are for this segment of households will slow further, mainly due households comprising one person, are expected to show to the continuation of both a low level of fertility and the the strongest pace of growth.
