While the sample was characterised by people with responsible and accurate views of the use and misuse of prescription drugs, nearly one-fifth of the sample was classified as i misusers of prescription medication. [...] Risks from Online Pharmacies The International Narcotics Control Board (2001) acknowledged that the recent expansion of Internet sales and the open advertising of the illegal purchase of prescription drugs were a cause for concern. [...] Much of the research on online pharmacies has been conducted in the United States where the purchasing of prescription drugs online results in billions of dollars in sales annually. [...] As a result, according to the Executive Director of the National Association of Boards of Pharmacy, it was “easier and cheaper and more profitable to sell these prescription drugs on the Internet than to sell heroin and cocaine on the street” (Brand, 2007: 45). [...] The goal of KINS was to promote the role of the private-public relationship in preventing the proliferation of unregulated online pharmacies.
