A former director of several research centres and co-CEO of the Asia Pacific Foundation of Canada, he was a co-founder of the Council for Security Cooperation in Asia Pacific and the Canadian Consortium on Human Security. [...] He serves on the editorial boards of several journals and on the advisory boards of the Kule Institute for Advanced Studies (KIAS); the South South Cooperation Council 7 Human Security in Southeast Asia - Conference Program ABOUT THE PARTICIPANTS (SSCC); and the Canadian Defence and Security Network (CSDN). [...] His research interests include the politics and security dynamics of South Asia and the Indo-Pacific; bilateral relations between Canada and India; diaspora, extremism, and social movement studies in South Asia; as well as the examination of human rights violations in developing states. [...] Ramraj joined the University of Victoria as Professor of Law and CAPI Chair in Asia-Pacific Legal Relations in 2014, and in 2017 also assumed the role of CAPI Director. [...] Professor Ramraj holds five degrees from McGill University, the University of Toronto, and Queen’s University Belfast, served as a judicial law clerk at the Federal Court of Appeal in Ottawa and as a litigation lawyer in Toronto, and retains a non-practicing membership in the Law Society of Ontario.
