We further acknowledge that in both the northwest and the south, we have the privilege of working with other First Nations and organizations, with Métis communities and the Métis Nation of Ontario, and with many municipal communities that have all expressed an interest in learning about our work. [...] The panel included representatives from the Nuclear Innovation Institute, the Bruce County Planning and Development department, Launch Pad (a community hub that offers skill-building programs to youth in the Grey Bruce region) and the University of Western Ontario. [...] Visitors explored booths providing information about the Ignace and area community studies, Canada’s regulatory requirements to approve a repository site, environment programs, the NWMO’s work with interested First Nation and Métis communities, and the design and use of the planned Centre of Expertise. [...] Before the sampling program, the NWMO and the GENESIS program teacher developed lessons on nuclear energy to equip students with the foundational knowledge and skills needed to partake in the research. [...] COUNCIL OF ELDERS AND YOUTH The Council of Elders and Youth provides counsel on the NWMO’s application of Indigenous Knowledge and Reconciliation in implementing Canada’s plan.
