Once a tree has been keyed out, the identification should be substantiated by checking with the description of that tree on the page referred to and the appropriate illustration on the facing page in Part 3. Fifteen additional species or subspecies, similar to those listed in the key, are identified in these descriptive pages. [...] The genus name, followed by a suggested pronunciation (see the sound values printed below), and the meaning and origin of the genus name follows. [...] The first name of the binomial is the genus name that is always capitalized; the second name that follows is the specific epithet (also called the specific name, or trivial name). [...] It is customary that after the binomial and authors' names have been printed for the first time in a text, that the authors' names be omitted and when this binomial is repeated often, it may be further reduced by including only the initial for the genus name with the specific epithet. [...] Maps in this part of the book were reduced and drawn from a map and information provided by the Parks and Outdoor Recreation Division of the B. C. Ministry of Lands, Parks and Housing.
