!e idea is to empower local civil society groups to understand the key concepts underlying the right to information and to be able to use the Indonesian Act to obtain access to information. [...] !e eighth session goes beyond the systems of access under the law and addresses the important question of how to use the media to further openness on the part of government. [...] What is the Right to Information (RTI) !e core of the right to information is that public authorities do not hold information on their own behalf, but on behalf of the public as a whole and that the public has a right to access this information. [...] Guarantees of the right to information are based on international guarantees of the right to freedom of expression: this includes the right to seek and receive, as well as to impart, information and ideas.
