They broke it, we’ll fix it.
Letter from Andrea Horwath:
Dear friends,
I’m running for premier because I love this province, and I believe in its
promise. I know that together, we can get back on track and finally fix what
matters most.
Across Ontario, people are finding it harder to pay the bills, even if they have a
good job. Many are seeing their dreams of starting a family, owning a home or
running a small business slip further away each day.
Folks fear for their little ones and their aging loved ones, who just don’t have
the support they need to adapt and thrive. Far too many people in Ontario are
watching a loved one wince in pain every day, because the surgery they need
is backlogged for six months, a year, or even two.
The last two years have been a long, painful battle — one we’re still in the
final rounds of fighting. But these problems didn’t start with COVID-19. They
stretch back years and years.
So when we finally leave the pandemic in the rear-view mirror, we can’t afford
to go back.
Let’s rebuild what we’ve lost and fix what’s been broken for far too long.
Let’s have a government that puts everyday people first. That builds a new
foundation for the next generation of Ontarians, instead of creating more
problems for them to solve.
Let’s revive our public health care system and ramp up staffing. Let’s get
every Ontarian mental health care, drug and dental care, paid for with your
OHIP card, not your credit card. Let’s get profit out of seniors care and give
our elders the quality, hands-on, culturally appropriate home and community
care and long-term care they deserve. And let’s make life more affordable
for everyone — from hydro, to auto insurance, to child care and the cost of
housing.
Together, I know we can get it done.
