This article aims to enable public health actors to better understand Health in All Policies (HIP) and to clarify what can be expected of it in the Canadian political context. The HiAP is a policy instrument that articulates a holistic view of health beyond health care and supports coordinated intersectoral actions to improve the social determinants of health. Federal, provincial and territorial governments could adopt a framework policy focused on HiAP to ensure that positive health effects are better considered by non-health sector initiatives.
