[...] For 11 years, we exchanged experiences and perspectives, conductd research, met in rural and remotes places, produced reports, media materials, and publications, and assessed policy options to improve the lives of rural people and places. [...] Initiatives • In partnership with rural communities and CRRF we conducted annual conferences and workshops in rural and remote places. [...] From 1997 to 2008 we collaborated with these communities to design and produce stories, fi eld notes, multi-year site profi les, respondent-generated maps of their community boundaries, site history descriptions, and structured surveys regarding the availability and use of services, economic fortunes, resource base and amenities, demographic and social changes, the voluntary sector, entrepreneursh. [...] Th ey included researchers, community mem- bers and groups, policy-makers at federal, provincial, regional, and municipal levels, practitioners, business-peo- ple, and learners of all ages and disciplines.
