Malay (; Malay: bahasa Melayu, Rejang script: ꤷꥁꤼ ꤸꥍꤾꤿꥈ) is an Austronesian language officially spoken in Brunei, Indonesia, Malaysia and Singapore and unofficially spoken in East Timor and parts of Thailand. A language of the Malays, it is spoken by 290 million people (around 260 million as Indonesian) across the Malay World. As the Bahasa Kebangsaan or Bahasa Nasional ("national language") of several states, Standard Malay has various official names.
