Edition 28, January 2024 Special measures introduced for people living in Gaza In recognition of the ongoing and deteriorating situation in Gaza since the eruption of open hostilities in October 2023, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) has introduced special immigration measures for people affected by the conflict. [...] As of December 21, 2023, family members of Canadian citizens and permanent residents who have left Israel and the Palestinian Territories, and Israelis and Palestinians already in Canada who feel unsafe returning to the affected areas, can apply for a fee-exempt study or open work permit. [...] People living in the area are facing a severely depleted healthcare system, food insecurity, schools either destroyed or repurposed to house internally displaced people, and the bombing and air raids on refugee camps in central and north Gaza.  Webinars on trauma-informed practice and the Economic Mobility Pathways Pilot BC Refugee Hub and the BC Refugee Resource Network are partnering to present.
