The purpose of this framework document is to: facilitate CAMH responses to emerging mental health and criminal justice policy-related issues with all levels of government; provide a model for the development and implementation of mental health and criminal justice policies that most effectively address the prevention, diversion and treatment/rehabilitation needs of people with mental illness; share CAMH's perspective on mental health and criminal justice policy; encourage a convergence of research and practice within CAMH and across the system on mental health and criminal justice issues.
