Translational strategies to combat antibiotic resistance : Stratégies translationnelles de lutte contre l'antibiorésistance

Participants acknowledged that the research community must do a better job of educating the media, the public, and governments to raise awareness of the true extent and seriousness of the problem. [...] As Canada and the UK already have a history of collaboration in the antibiotic resistance fi eld and share many of the same challenges it was recommended that joint strategies be developed to take advantage of the strengths in both countries and provide an opportunity for the sharing of best practices. [...] In order to galvanize international action, the economic and health costs of antibiotic resistance need to be brought to the attention of the public and governments. [...] It was noted that the true magnitude of the problem is not fully appreciated and that the research community must do a better job of educating the public and the media to bring the issue of antibiotic resistance to the attention of governments. [...] Examples include the Quebec Consortium for Drug Discovery (CQDM) and the Centre for Drug Research and Development (CDRD) in Canada, and the Innovative Medicines Initiative (IMI) in the EU.
