Following some introductory observations on the role of the House in the province’s political history, we examine these topics: the socio-demographics of the members (MHAs); the services and facilities available to the individual members and the party caucuses; and the relationship between the government and the opposition, including the selection of the speaker, the legislative committees and the [...] Meanwhile, the Mi’kmaq nation was headed for the fate of Aboriginal nations wherever they encountered emigrants to the “New World,” namely, the ongoing expropriation of their lands and the restriction of the use of the resources. [...] Thus it is hardly surprising to find that the return of three minority governments in fewer than 10 years has made an impact on the House of Assembly in a number of ways, among them the selection of the Speaker of the House, the legislative committees and the approach of government and opposition to the business of the legislature.
