[...] The country is supposed to host the 2019 African Nations Cup next June, but lack of progress on facilities (and the growing insecurity) could force the Confederation of African Football to move the tournament. [...] The United States has trained the BIR (Bataillon d’Intervention Rapide) for operations against Boko Haram and continues to maintain a significant presence, but the BIR is now active in the west, operating from its large base near Limbe with the same impunity as it does in the far north.
