The work undertaken here seeks to address this gap in the literature by using experimental methods to enhance understanding on the joint effects of price changes induced by a fat tax and the stigma associated with the application of the tax. [...] This research addresses this gap in the literature by using choice experiments to enhance understanding on the joint effects of price changes induced by a fat tax and the stigma associated with the application of the tax. [...] This does not allow investigation of how consumers would respond to a fat tax that is labeled as such – that is, where the imposition of the tax itself is a signal to consumers regarding the quality of the product. [...] The project is ongoing through the end of the calendar year 2008, with support from the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada. [...] They develop a model that predicts the movement in time of the ratio of the property values of homes close to the Superfund site compared to homes far enough away to avoid being negatively affected.
