Despite the rich tradition and the adaptability of the co-operative movement in New Brunswick, there has never been a thorough and systematic evaluation of its socioeconomic impact. This study is intended to fill that gap by providing, for the first time, an overall evaluation. First, major trends of the recent evolution of the movement are presented. Next, by using the input-output table, an estimate of the impact of the co-operative movement on employment and provincial tax receipts is calculated. Last, from the point of view of the major objectives of sustainable development, an analysis of the main socioeconomic impacts of the movement is provided.
