An update on the economic impact of international education in British Columbia

The number of jobs supported in a year due to international education services was 23,410, which is about the same as the number of employed in the broadcasting and telecommunications sector (22,500), and greater than employment levels in many other industries in the province. [...] Post-Secondary Education and Training One of the main purposes of this study is to understand the number of international students in the province in different levels of study – in the K-12 system, and in the post- secondary system. [...] We note that we have applied the average for full time undergraduate tuition fees for those in the “undergraduate” level and average for full-time graduate tuition fees for those in the “graduate” level for the number of international students in the “undergraduate” and “graduate” category in the public post-secondary institutions.3 In addition, we have included “Additional Fees” which represent c [...] For the purposes of this analysis, we have used the boundaries of eight Development Regions in the province, and collected data of international students in each of the region, and data on their spending patterns. [...] This is due to the differences in the distribution of international students from these countries studying in the type of institutions in the province.
