Collection of essays concerning freedom of expression and civil liberities in Canada and how they may conflict with the wish to respect the diversity of Canada's people and cultures. While a civil libertarian view informs the collection, authors also question efforts to make legally enforceable the judgment that it is wrong to cause offence.The collection is the product of an event organized by the Canadian Civil Liberties Association and the Sheldon Chumir Foundation for Ethics in Leadershipheld in Toronto on April 17, 2010 entitled: Offence, respect, ethics and the law: how should we speak to one another about sensitive subjects?
