INSTITUTE NATURAL GAS SUPPLY CHAIN Canadian Energy Research Institute | Relevant • Independent • Objective E conomic and Environmental Impacts of Methane Emissions Reduction i in the Natural Gas Supply Chain ECONOMIC AND ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACTS OF METHANE EMISSIONS REDUCTION IN THE NATURAL GAS SUPPLY CHAIN. [...] Due to the nature of the devices used and the activities involved in natural gas production and supply, some of the gas may be vented or flared as part of normal operation of gas supply networks. [...] Some gas may also leak from the system because of the limitations/failures of the devices in use in the supply chain. [...] Natural Gas Systems, Methane Emissions and Regulations in the US and Canada Upstream natural gas operations in Canada are exclusively located in the provinces of British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba and a few areas in eastern Canada. [...] The objective of the latter study was to: • identify less-known methane emission sources, • highlight the level of activity of these sources, and • quantify the emissions if the level is high.
