What are some of the ways that Aboriginal suppliers need to grow in order to meet the procurement needs of companies operating in the electricity and renewables industry? [...] Through the creation of an inclusive supply chain, companies can tap into this resource to better manage their purchasing of goods and services, and leverage the knowledge of the environment and Northern Canada that Aboriginal people and businesses bring to the table. [...] But in the broader context of establishing harmonious relationships with Aboriginal communities and in the interests of local community economic development, the total cost of ownership may be a better approach to considering the true cost of supply chain for companies in the electricity and renewables sector. [...] Despite the differences in regulation and ownership, there is a need in the electricity and renewables sector for a variety of products, services and solutions provided by a variety of businesses, both small and large. [...] The 2003 blackout that hit the northeast of Canada and the U. S. is the perfect example to show how fragile the dated systems are and underscores the need for investments.
