Connecting the dots on climate data in Ontario

The Roundtable painted a clear picture of the current state of climate data in Ontario: much climate data exists, but many of its current and potential end users need assistance in accessing and translating reliable climate data to make it relevant for their purposes. [...] Based on the activities of OCC to understand the state of climate data in Ontario and to compile the best data for use by practitioners and in research, Ryan has concluded that the state of historical climate data availability in Ontario is reasonable. [...] Climate information varies and governments with the greatly in the level of effort needed to process and apply it, and it is important to think about the trade- intent of increasing the offs between end user needs and the data’s complexity, province’s capacity to assess, specificity, and uncertainty. [...] Often, climate data users do not know the type (e.g., temporal and spatial communicate and respond resolutions and scales, statistical methods, etc.) and/ or the amount of information they need to understand to climate change risks and risks and to make decisions to adapt to climate change. [...] In 2012, the TRCA and the Ontario Climate Consortium put together a proposal to support the WeatherWise Electrical Sector Core Project Team with the assistance of CivicAction and the Toronto Environment and Energy Division.
