Building on the many measures taken to date, the Government will continue to implement strategies and initiatives to meet the evolving threat environment, enhance the security of Canadians, and contribute to international security in the 21st century. [...] The Anti-Terrorism Act was carefully crafted by parliamentarians to give ministers of the Crown, government departments and law enforcement agencies the tools and authorities to combat terrorists and terrorist organizations while also respecting Canada’s Charter of Rights and Freedoms and the core values of Canadians. [...] Members met with the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Public Safety and Emergency Preparedness, the Minister of Justice and Attorney General of Canada, the Minister of State for Multiculturalism, and senior officials from government departments and agencies with national security responsibilities. [...] The Council will advise the Government through the National Security Advisor to the Prime Minister on issues related to national security and on strategies, mechanisms and activities required to develop, implement, evaluate and improve a fully integrated security system. [...] The National Security Advisor will report regularly on the work of the Council to the Cabinet Committee on Security, Public Health and Emergencies and to the Prime Minister.
