Engaging boys for success

10 Sep 2014

Provide leadership opportunities for boys in the school and community and give them responsibilities within the classroom and the school to build their self-esteem. [...] Following the release of the report in October 2012, staff of TLP elected to test the applicability of the process that had been created outside of the city of Toronto to schools, cities and boards that were smaller than those in the pilot project, to Catholic as well as public boards and to less dense and more rural areas. [...] Each board identified one or more schools to participate in the initiative, and a core advisory team for each school or group of schools was established composed of board and school staff and community representatives who service the students and families in the schools involved in the project. [...] One of the objectives of the project was to explore and develop strategies to increase involvement in the school and the centre. [...] The Core Advisory Group participated in the discovery exercise and the pre- and post- engagement surveys and facilitated two focus groups of boys, one group of girls and one each of parents, staff and community representatives.
