Increasing complexity, devolved governance, and globalization all challenge traditional regulatory practice ... given these pressures what are "new directions in regulatory practice"? This concept paper explores these issues and considers how training and education might be best structured to meet emerging challenges. It explores how institutional and structural factors are impacting regulatory practice and considers how these changes influence disciplinarity and professionalization within the Canadian regulatory environment. Taken together, we seek to forward thinking about "new directions" in regulatory practice in order to consider the skills needed to deal with increasingly complex and interwoven domains.
