In January 2020, the Acting Executive Secretary travelled to China to hold meetings with a number of Government senior officials, including the Environment Minister and Vice Minister, in the context of the second meeting of the Working Group on the Post-2020 Global Biodiversity Framework and the fifteenth meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity. [...] The items on the meeting’s agenda are the review of progress in the implementation of the Convention and the Strategic Plan for Biodiversity 2011-2020, the assessment and review of the effectiveness of the Cartagena Protocol on Biosafety, the Post-2020 global biodiversity framework, resource mobilization and the financial mechanism, capacity- building, technical and scientific cooperation, technol. [...] The key outcome of the above activities was the timely provision of assessments of progress in the implementation of the Convention and the Strategic Plan for Biodiversity 2011-2020 and the Aichi Biodiversity Targets, for SBI-3, that will prepare recommendations for consideration by the third meeting of the Open-ended Working Group on the Post-2020 Global Biodiversity Framework, and to the fifteen. [...] At its thirteenth meeting, the Conference of the Parties, through decision XIII/25, took note of the progress made in the development of a voluntary peer-review mechanism, especially the development of a draft methodology for the review, and requested the Executive Secretary, subject to the availability of resources, to facilitate the further testing, and development of the /… h . [...] Other decisions of the Conference of the Parties contain elements relevant to the preparation of the post-2020 global biodiversity framework.[1] Related to this, in decision 14/17, paragraph 13, the Conference of the Parties requested Parties to facilitate and support the participation of indigenous peoples and local communities in the discussion and processes related to the post-2020 global biodi.
