We appreciate and acknowledge the support of Norm Leech, from the T’it’q’et community of the St’at’imc Nation and Executive Director at Frog Hollow Neighbourhood House who shared his knowledge and advice on decolonizing the discussion on the intersections of newcomer experiences in housing and settlement and rethinking how we think about our relationship to the land. [...] The members of the Housing Advisory Committee had the opportunity to provide feedback on the project progress, the housing survey results, the research questions for the focus groups, and one-on-one interviews as well as on the significance of the project findings. [...] AMSSA has heard directly from the sector about the strain to keep up with the demand for settlement and housing services and the significant need to assess the intersectionality of newcomer experiences in settlement and housing in B. [...] C.? Based on the identified themes in the literature review as well as the objective of the research project, the research question was then specified to: What is the role of th e settlement sector in the housing conversation and how can the settlement sector participate in addressing the housing crisis? 13 LITERATURE REVIEW Concerns regarding affordability, accessibility and suitability of housin. [...] While settlement and housing challenges and barriers are experienced by all immigrants, refugees and temporary residents, the first five years in Canada is the period of time with the highest level of difficulties, influenced by factors such as language, lack of credit history and knowledge of the housing sector, employment and adjusting to a new culture.
