The aim of this exercise was to assess the “wellness” of the human–fisheries connection and the first results of the use of technology to improve community understanding of the present and future fisheries. [...] The overall goal of the FishGIS project was to enhance the capacity of local small-scale fishers and aquaculture farmers to monitor the environmental quality of coastal ecosystems and the status of coastal fisheries in Indonesia. [...] 58 21 The Tools for Citizen Scientists Section 3 Questions posed by the participants and problems with the use of the application during the demonstrations helped to guide the PST in improving the application’s functionality so that the early phase manual was significantly revised and expanded. [...] By the final year of the project, enough knowledge had been transferred to the targeted communities through training and implementation workshops and trial surveys (smaller- scale in-depth on-site practical training), along with the technologies and tools, for the communities to be proficient in collecting and assisting in the evaluation of the data. [...] The aim of this exercise was to assess the “wellness” of the human–fisheries connection and the first results of the use of smartphone- based technology to improve community understanding of the present and future fisheries.
