[...] Production Carrots are Canada’s most important field vegetable crop in terms of value (over $131 million in 2020), and are the third-most significant crop in terms of acreage (8,313 hectares) and total production volume (350,614 metric tonnes in 2020). [...] With 17,365 planted hectares, sweet corn is Canada’s most important field vegetable crop in terms of acreage, and represents the fourth-most important crop in terms of total production (197,873 metric tonnes) and the fifth-most important crop in terms of farm gate value ($84.2 million). [...] The United States is the largest importer of vegetables in terms of value and volume, while Canada ranks as the fourth largest importer of vegetables in terms of value, and fifth in terms of volume. [...] Across the world, tomatoes, peppers, onions and shallots, garlic and cucumbers and gherkins rank in the top five in terms of value of exported vegetable crops.
