The Act amends the Residential Tenancies Act, 2006 (RTA), to deliver on the commitment to freeze residential rent increases in 2021 to give the vast majority of Ontario tenants some relief and financial security as we continue to recover from the pandemic. [...] The Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing is committed to engaging the community housing sector through consultations under the Community Housing Renewal Strategy to monitor and understand the impacts of the rent freeze, as we work together to mitigate the financial impacts of COVID-19 on Ontarians, increase housing affordability, and deliver on our goal to sustain and grow the community housi. [...] 8 Advocacy for a Permanent Policy Solution The County has been working with its colleagues through the Top Aggregate Producing Municipalities of Ontario (TAPMO) to raise awareness of the assessments and the inequitable treatment of these properties and ask the government to review how these properties are assessed and treated from a property tax policy perspective through the MPAC review that is c. [...] The solution to remove the exemption of aggregate in the Assessment Act would allow MPAC to assess the full value of the property. [...] The County wants to be fair to aggregate producers while recognizing that they should be part of the solution in terms of helping families and businesses get back on their feet – the very people who are carrying the burden of the current MPAC system.
