88 1 ABOUT THE AFMC Founded in 1943, the Association of Faculties of Medicine of Canada (AFMC) represents Canada's 17 faculties of medicine and is the voice of academic medicine in this country. [...] Since the universities are under provincial jurisdiction, the majority of places in a faculty of medicine are allocated to permanent residents of the province in which the university is located. [...] Unsuccessful applicants should realize that the reason for rejection may not be the lack of ability or qualities but the competition for the limited number of places that are available when the number of qualified applicants greatly exceeds the number of available places. [...] The 80 positions include: at least 65 residents of Newfoundland and Labrador, an unspecified number of MMTP seats, 1 seat for Nunavut, 4 residents of Prince Edward, Island; the rest of the seats are for the rest of the provinces in Canada. [...] Applicants are required to take the Casper test in the fall of the application year and in the language of instruction they applied for.
