Cogeneration

Cogeneration or combined heat and power (CHP) is the use of a heat engine or power station to generate electricity and useful heat at the same time. Trigeneration or combined cooling, heat and power (CCHP) refers to the simultaneous generation of electricity and useful heating and cooling from the combustion of a fuel or a solar heat collector. The terms cogeneration and trigeneration can also be applied to the power systems simultaneously generating electricity, heat, and industrial chemicals (e.g., syngas). Cogeneration is a more efficient use of fuel because otherwise-wasted heat from electricity generation is put to some productive use. …

10-Year Change (2012 to 2021) implementation of cogeneration 90 contributed significantly to the 85 intensity some of the decrease. The implementation of cogeneration Emissions Intensity has also helped to reduce compression, injection, enhanced oil recovery, etc. ● Cogeneration uses waste heat to generate electricity, thereby to burn additional fuel for power generation. Cogeneration is well suited for oil sands operations, which be sold to the grid. ● In Alberta, existing cogeneration facilities have a combined capacity of over
