The letters addressed by Theoleptos to Eirene-Eulogia during the years 1307 till his death at the end of 1322 provide many details regarding the complex personality of this Byzantine princess prior to her involvement with the anti-Palamite cause and the less sympathetic opinions of her held by the members of the opposing camp. [...] The historian Pachymeres described in some detail the severe hardships endured by the people of the city especially as their food supplies dwindled.48 Choumnos naturally gave prominence to the role played by Theoleptos, but Pachymeres passed over him in silence and attributed the lifting of the siege to the arrival of the Catalan Company.49 A Catalan chronicle gives the following account. [...] However, since the period of contact was brief and at such a young age, the direct influence of Theoleptos on the spiritual and theological formation of Palamas must have been negligible.53 E.
